Help local community charities, like Westland Countryside Stewards, by shopping at Co-op.
Kilkhampton based nature conservation charity, Westland Countryside Stewards, has been selected for the Co-op Local Community Fund. Since September 2016, Co-op Members have raised £20 million for thousands of local projects that benefit communities across the UK.
Funds raised will help encourage native species on Kilkhampton Common and promote a diversity of wildlife and habitats for visitors to enjoy.
With the funds, volunteer ‘Balsam Bashing’ events will be organised. Himalayan balsam is a non-native species to the UK and a major weed problem. It grows and spreads rapidly, smothering other vegetation as it goes. By managing the balsam on Kilkhampton Common, native flora can thrive and help increase the diversity of wildlife for visitors to enjoy.
Westland Countryside Stewards was set up with the aim of securing and managing land of environmental value in North Cornwall. It promotes habits where native species can thrive. Wherever possible, we aim to make such land available for the benefit of the local community. As well as providing Kilkhampton Common so the public can reconnect with local nature, it led the reintroduction of the endangered water vole back into the Bude river catchment.

How the fund works
As a member, every time you shop at Co-op, 1% of what you spend on selected rolex cellini replica own-brand products and services goes to the local community fund. Also, money raised from shopping bag sales are equally shared between the causes in the local area.
You can choose which cause you want your own 1% to go to. If you don’t, it’s equally shared between the causes of your nearest Co-op. If you’re not a member, you can sign up and help local causes while doing your weekly shop.
