Volunteer in our Spring water vole survey

We invite you to volunteer in our Spring water vole field sign survey in the Bude catchment.

Come join us in a walk along the canal and river. We will search the vegetation and banks for signs such a burrows, latrines, and feeding.

Since the reintroduction of the endangered water vole, monitoring needs to take place. This data helps us see how the water voles are getting on in their habitat.

Spring surveying dates and locations

  • 30th April – Cann Orchard
  • 1st May – Helebridge
  • 3rd May – Bude Canal

Please bring suitable clothing and footwear. A pack lunch is also recommended.

Surveying will run from 9am till 4pm. Join for as long as you want.

Please contact us if you’re interested in volunteering, or need more details.

Water voles have gone from a widespread species to near extinction in Britain. But water voles are now repopulating the land in the Bude catchment. Five-hundred and fifty water voles were released as part of our reintroduction programme, which began in 2012.

The charity continues to survey the catchment to ensure the water voles are thriving.

We recommend this event for anyone with an interest in local wildlife and in water voles.

If you’re unable to attend, we will be running another survey in Autumn 2018.
